YOU need to be at least 16 years old to buy alcoholic beverages so it is safe to assume that an alcoholic would be around that age. But forget that because the youngest alcoholic in Britain is an eight-year-old schoolgirl. Come again? Yep, an eight-year-old girl.
She started raiding her parents’ drink stash when she was in year four at primary school and soon developed “a serious problem,” reports the Daily Star.
Growing up in a family of problem boozers, she thought downing alcopops and shots was normal.
Four or five times a week, she would get “steaming drunk”.
Throughout her primary years, she kept drinking and developed every symptom of alcoholism when she hit her teens.
Nicolay Sorensen, of Alcohol Concern, said: “This is shocking but sadly it isn’t at all unique.”
